EDF-consortium bids in second French tender

UK: The consortium of EDF Energies Nouvelles and WPD Offshore has confirmed it submitted two bids for up to 1GW being offered in the second round of France's offshore wind tender.

Alstom will supply the turbines. The projects, of 480-500MW each, are located off Tréport, in the English Channel, and near the Ile d'Yeu, in the Atlantic. They must come into service by 2023.

Energy regulator CRE now has four months to evaluate the bids. They will be assessed on price, industrial plans and environmental and social aspects.

Bids will be scored in inverse proportion to price, with those over EUR 220/MWh being eliminated.

The companies are building on a partnership forged during the first round, when the EDF EN-led consortium was awarded 1.5GW.

Bids are also expected from GDF Suez with EDP Renewables and Neoen Marine, partnered by Areva for the turbines.
