CHINA: Chinese tower manufacture Titan Wind Energy won a contract from Siemens to supply towers for the 210MW Westermost Rough offshore wind project in the UK's North Sea.

Dong Energy’s development, which lies 8 kilometres off east England’s Yorkshire coast, will use 35 Siemens 6MW turbines.

Bladt Industries is building the foundations in Aalborg, Denmark, and GeoSea will install them from spring 2014.

Last year, Vestas sold its tower manufacturing plant in Varde, Denmark, to Titan Wind, which is where the towers will be made.

The plant was sold as part of Vestas' plan to offload non-essential factories.

Titan said the acquisition would provide it with a foothold in the European market. In China, the company is one of the largest manufacturers in the sector producing around 1,600 units a year.
