RES to carry out more cable survey work at Borkum Riffgrund 1

GERMANY: RES Offshore has been contracted to carry out surveying work of six new inter-array cable routes and review 37 previously created cable routes by CT Offshore at the 320MW Borkum Riffgrund 1 offshore wind development.

The substation is lowered into position at Borkum Riffgrund 1

In 2012 RES supported CT Offshore’s tender submission to Dong Energy for the cable array installation at the 35 square kilometre plant, which lies 55 kilometres north of the island of Borkum, Germany.

RES assisted in the cable route engineering work for the proposed 93 inter-arrays and collector cables providing cable routing charts, route position lists and cable route verification documentation for the site in the German North Sea.

In 2013 RES was re-contracted to undertake a revised scope of work by the Danish cable installation company for the final engineering phase of Borkum Riffgrund 1, covering 43 array cables of the plant's 77 turbines.

When this work is completed RES will provide CT Offshore with documents and charts for the array cables.

Dong completed the installation of the offshore substation in August. The next phase is the installation of the turbine foundations, scheduled to start early in 2014. Commissioning of the complete project is set for 2015.
