The Damen WSV boat will include a telescopic gangway to allow a three-man maintenance team to "walk to work" between vessel and turbine.
The monohull boat has been designed to provide accommodation and on-site work facilities for as many as 45 maintenance workers and 15 crew members for up to one month.
It will be 90 metres long, with a beam of 20 metres and 500 square-metres of deck space. It also features a helideck.
The company claims that its shallow 4.6-metre draft optimises comfort while also offering power savings. The main propulsion comes in the form of a diesel electric motor, which Damen says increases the vessel's environmentally-friendly credentials.
Business development manager Peter Robert believes the vessel meets the changing demands of the offshore wind industry, commenting: "There is a growing trend for wind turbines to be located further from shore. At distances greater than 30 nautical miles, maintenance crew transfer from shore within one day becomes both impractical and costly."
