Gamesa's 5MW achieves company's highest electricity generation

SPAIN: Gamesa's new 5MW offshore turbine in Spain has achieved the company's highest electricity generation for a wind turbine.

The G128-5MW in Arinaga Quay, in the Canary Islands, produced 118.05MWh of electricity in 24 hours beating the previous record of 107.82MWh, by the Spanish company’s G128-4.5MW turbine.

Spain’s first offshore turbine started operating in July and has generated more than 2GWh of electricity into the grid.

Gamesa said: "This milestone demonstrates the turbine’s tremendous reliability and its ability to withstand extreme wind conditions for more than 24 hours in a row without suffering any incident."

The turbine manufacturer said it expects it to be certified in March and is looking at three possible test sites for the turbine in the UK and Belgium.
