The £7 million deal for the 19 metre crew transfer vessel, MPI Altisidora, saw the first vessel delivered on 22 October, with the last one arriving in March.

The vessels will be deployed in UK and other European offshore wind sites and can carry three crew members and 12 wind plant personnel to offshore sites.

South Boats Isle of Wight developed the catamaran with MPI to ensure it meet their needs.

Altisidora is MPI’s ninth south catamaran bringing its fleet to 12 following this deal.

Ben Colman, South Boats IOW’s sales and marketing manager said: "Large multi-vessel deals such as this one should only enhance the UK’s reputation as a first-class commercial boat builder and operator."

Leslie Robertson, MPI Workboats general manager, said: "In our line of work it is crucial that we continue to deliver technicians to wind farm sites fresh and ready to work.

"The requirements of supporting UK offshore wind developments continue to change and become increasingly demanding – especially as we undergo the transition from construction to operational phases.

"As such, we are not looking for a one-size-fits-all solution when building out our fleet of specialist wind farm service vessels."

MPI Workboats vessels have experience operating at 630MW London Array, 317MW Sheringham Shoal, Gunfleet Sands, 194MW Lynn and Inner Dowsing, 180MW Robin Rigg, 90MW Burbo Bank, 90MW Rhyl Flats, 62MW Teesside, wind sites in the UK.

In Belgium they work at Thornton Bank and 216MW Northwind offshore wind sites.
