Sauven has overseen the company's blade development at it's blade R&D facility on the Isle of Wight in the south of England.
Vestas' 80 metre prototype blades for the V164-8MW are being built at the centre, and the facility is used for testing and verification of all of the firm's prototype blades.
Sauven will continue to be employed by the company until April 2014, but Vestas said that its senior vice president of industrialisation in the technology service solutions division, Servet Sert, will take over the position until a suitable replacement can be found.
It is not known if he has another job to go to.
In a statement, Vestas said: "Rob Sauven has successfully led and grown Vestas' blades development organisation throughout the past 25 years and we thank him for his dedication and leadership in this area.
In 2009, Sauven had to oversee the closure of Vesta's blade manufacturing plant on the Isle of Wight , when nearly 600 jobs were cut. He was seen as playing a key role in the establishment of the R&D facility on the island.
