GERMANY: Repower has announced it is to rebrand itself as Senvion, three years since it first announced plans for a name change.

The Suzlon-owned company said the rebrand would come into effect in 2014. The Repower name is owned by a Swiss utility of the same name and has been licensed to the German turbine manufacturer since 2001.

The rebranding of Repower has been put back on a number of occasions. In June 2010, Repower Systems' then-CEO Per Hornung Pedersen said: "The rebranding must take place before the end of 2012." However, since then the license has been extended on an ad-hoc basis.

Talking about the change, Repower chief executive Andreas Nauen said: "This is an important development for us. In addition to having unique products and services, we will also be the only company with this name.

"Senvion may be associated with 'innovation', 'energy' and 'wind', and this underlines our focus on renewable energies. As Senvion we will continue along our path as a strong brand and remain an innovative company in the wind energy industry."

A new logo and brand identity will be announced in January 2014.

In 2011, Nauen told Windpower Monthly the rebrand would take place by the end of 2012. Responding to questions about whether Repower would assume the Suzlon brand, he said the company would remain separate from its Indian parent.

In the past, the strict separation between the two has been important in Repower Systems' success in getting new finance.

The EUR 750 million in finance facilities running for 2.5 years agreed with three German banks in February 2012 were structured "based on a stand-alone view of Repower."
