EUROPE: GE has released a new 3.2MW turbine aimed at deployment in the UK, Ireland and Turkey.

The 3.2-103 is based on the company's 2.5MW platform and is designed to overcome restrictions in tip heights in the UK and Ireland while also increasing output, with the model available in hub heights between 70 and 98 metres.

Turkey is named as a target market due to the prevalence of windy, low-shear sites in the country, which GE said will suit the available hub heights.

As part of the company's "Brilliant" series, the turbine uses the industrial internet to allow the turbines to communicate with each other and a central server to help to account for wind variability, with the aim of maximising the output of smooth, predictable power.

The turbine also features integrated energy storage which can enable the turbine to respond to supply and demand changes.

GE's general manager of Europe for renewable energy Cliff Harris commented: "Engineered specifically for UK and Ireland permit constraints, the 103-meter rotor diameter and hub-height flexibility make it an excellent fit for tip-height constrained sites.

"Additionally, this advanced technology drives higher wind farm output especially in windy and low shear areas typically present in Turkey, and the integrated energy storage makes it a valuable solution to help improve the grid integration challenges."
