Vestas unsure on WindEnergy Hamburg attendance

GERMANY: Vestas has said that it is yet to decide whether it will exhibit at the WindEnergy Hamburg trade fair following its opposition to the fair's move away from Husum.

Vestas said that it is yet to decide due to "budget considerations". However, when contacted, WindEnergy Hamburg said that it believed Vestas would attend.

Enercon, the other major manufacturer that had opposed the move away from its original base, has confirmed that it will attend the event.

The failure of Enercon or Vestas to attend would be a serious blow to the fair in its first year at its new location.

Husum, a small town in northern Germany, has held an international trade fair focusing on wind technology since 1989. However, with the growth of the industry, many industry observers have felt the industry has outgrown the location.

At the last exhibition in 2012, the majority of the exhibition was held in marquees, while many participants claimed the lack of accommodation has also caused problems.

As a result, there was a growing demand from some sections of the wind industry to move the exhibition to Hamburg and to hold a national trade fair at Husum every two years.

But since Vestas has a base in Husum and has links to the area, it is believed it was keen, along with Enercon, to see the international conference remain at its original base.
