ABB to supply power link for Germany's Sandbank

GERMANY: ABB has been contracted by Tennet to supply an AC power transmission link from the 288MW Sandbank wind site in the German North Sea to the SylWin Alpha offshore HVDC converter station.

The Swiss power and technology company will design, engineer, supply and install the system, which comprises two 3-core 155 kilovolt AC submarine cables, each 36 kilometres long. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015.

Sandbank lies 90km west of the island of Sylt, north Germany. It's the fifth Germany offshore wind project that Tennet as awarded to ABB.
