The appointment comes after former CEO Tim Rosenzweig unexpectedly chose to leave the company when his three-year contract expired.
Halligan was previously director and controller of First Wind and held senior finance and accounting roles at the North American renewable energy arm of Italian utility Enel, at former Shell/Bechtel-backed global power producer InterGen and at Deloitte.
He graduated from the University of Manitoba in Canada.
