Suzlon wins 65MW Uruguay order

URUGUAY: Suzlon has been handed a 65MW deal by developer Rouar for a project in Colonia, southern Uruguay.

The project will be completed in September 2014 and use 31 S95 2.1MW turbines. Rouar is a joint venture set up by Uruguay's state-owned utility and Brazilian utility Electrobas.

Speaking about the deal, Suzlon chief executive Tulsi Tanti said: "We believe South America will drive major growth in wind energy, which provides sustainable solutions that balance the region's growing need for power to drive development."

Uruguay is fast emerging as one of the near-term stars of Latin America. Government energy agencies are now talking about 400MW of new capacity to be connected in 2013 alone. Vestas and Enercon are among those to have picked up orders recently.

This is all part of a 1.2GW wind target to 2015, set in 2010.
