GE releases turbine performance enhancer

UNITED STATES: GE has revealed a new customised software and hardware package it claims can increase a wind farm's output by up to 5%.

By adjusting performance dials that include speed, torque, pitch, aerodynamics and turbine controls, the PowerUp control system enhancer is intended to maximise the power output of a wind farm.

A GE-developed software program will also perform a before-and-after wind farm power performance analysis to assess whether the technology has aided performance improvement. The cost of the upgrade to the operator will be based on the increased level of output.

Previously, individual GE software and hardware upgrades were available to address niche issues, but PowerUp is different in that it is available for all of its installed models.

The product is part of GE's wind platform, which brings together analysis of data points on a wind farm with the intention of driving higher power output.
