Located in the Nanhui district of Shanghai, the wind farm is the second pilot offshore project in the city, involving an investment of CNY 1.76 billion ($290 million), and will be completed in September of 2014.

Sinovel will deliver 17 SL6000 6MW offshore wind turbines, currently the largest turbine in China, to Huaneng Renewables to construct the first stage of the wind farm.

In October 2011, Sinovel installed an independently developed 6MW prototype in Sheyang county in east China's Jiangsu province.

Sinovel also supplied 34 3MW wind turbines for China's first demonstration offshore wind farm, the Shanghai Donghai Bride project, in 2010.

China aims to construct 5GW of offshore wind projects by 2015 and have 30GW of offshore wind by 2020, according to the National Energy Bureau.
