The six areas chosen for the tender are Bornholm, Smålandsfarvandet, Sejerø Bugt, Sæby, North Sea (south) and North Sea (north) and 50MW will be reserved for offshore test and demonstration projects.
In February, Denmark announced the first tranche of the 1.5GW tender for the 400MW Horns Rev 3 and 600MW Kriegers Flak.
Lisbeth Nielsen, special adviser at the Danish Energy Agency said the process will be open for Horns Rev 3 and Kriegers Flak until 2015 and for the 450MW until 2016.
She said this is to enable the agency to carry out pre-investigations. This involves environmental impact assessments, geophysical, geotechnical tests and metocean studies that looks at the impact of wind, wave and tides.
National electricity transmission system operator, Energinet.dk, has undertaken geophysical surveys at both Horns Rev 3 and Kriegers Flak.
The Danish agency has been in consultation with a number of companies for the two sites including Dong, E.on, Statoil, Siemens, Vattenfal and Vestas.
Last year, Vattenfall confirmed to Windpower Offshore that it is interested in bidding for the project. Vattenfall already owns 60% of 160MW Horns Rev 1 and has its European wind energy asset monitoring centre at the nearby port of Esbjerg.
