Race Bank could start in 2015

UK: Engineers from British utility Centrica told a local council that work on the 580MW Race Bank offshore wind project in the North Sea off the Lincolnshire and north Norfolk coasts could start in the first quarter of 2015.

The Spalding Guardian reported on Sutton Bridge parish council’s meeting in which Centrica’s engineers gave an update on its Lincs and Race Bank offshore projects.

A spokesperson from Centrica said: "We have not made a financial investment decision on Race Bank."

Centrica said the reference to work starting in 2015 was "purely an indicative date" and it was giving the parish council an update on the project.

Centrica said in July it wants to wait for the consultation into the UK government's Contract for Difference offshore strike prices, before making a decision on the Race Bank project.

The 270MW Lincs wind site was completed on 26 September with 75 Siemens 3.6MW turbines. It is a joint venture between Centrica Energy, Dong Energy and Siemens Project Ventures.
