EnBW begins Baltic 2 monopile installation

GERMANY: Installation of the 39 monopile foundations at EnBW's 288MW Baltic 2 offshore project has started.

The monopiles are sealed at both ends and towed by barge from the port of Rostock to the Baltic 2 site, taking about 15 hours.

They are then lifted on to the installation platform Svanen to be set vertically and have the seals removed before being hammered 35 metres deep into the seabed, said EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg and partner EEW Special Pipe Constructions.

Each monopile is different, designed for the individual site of each turbine, with a diameter of around 6 metres, up to 73 metres long and weighing 500-930 tonnes,

Installation of the 41 jacket foundations began at the end of August for the 80 turbine project. Installation of the piles for the jacket foundations started in mid-August.
