The 3MW drivetrain was fitted to the W2E-120/3fc turbine in the summer,  before being installed on the 100-metre tower. The turbine is set to be commissioned later in October.

Winergy claimed its drivetrain is 35-50% shorter than standard models. It achieves this through using a two-stage planetary gearbox and a permanent-magnet generator. Both individual components have an efficiency of 98% resulting in a system efficiency of around 96.5%.

The current 3MW version has a nominal torque of 2,550 kilonewtons per metre and a weight of 34 tonnes including the oil supply system, making it lighter than other 3MW drivetrains.

After successful prototype testing of the HybridDrive on system level in September 2012, the product was certified by TUV Rheinland in April 2013.

The ultimate intention is to create a drivetrain for the next generation of turbines with power ratings of 6-7MW.
