The Norwegian energy company plans to develop the demonstration park in Buchan Deep, off Aberdeenshire, in 100-metre deep waters.
In September 2009, Statoil installed a floating turbine 10 kilometres off Norway’s south-west coast. Its Hywind project supports a 2.3MW Siemens turbine and is in water depths of 200 metres.
It is anticipated that the turbines on the Scottish site will be a Siemens 6MW. A spokesperson said the turbines have not been decided yet as the project is still in its early stages. Siemens was unable to confirm or deny the project would use its machine.
Maritime surveys were conducted at the site during the summer.
Statoil will be working with stakeholders in 2014 and a company spokesperson said: "We are encouraged by a positive and constructive dialogue with Scottish authorities."
Statoil said its Hywind project is exceeding expectations, adding: "With few operational challenges, excellent production output and well-functioning technical systems the Hywind concept could revolutionise the future of offshore wind.
"The Hywind concept is a door opener for completely new renewable energy business opportunities, unlocking huge offshore areas for clean energy production."
Statoil will present information on the proposed Hywind project in Scotland, as well potential supply chain opportunities, on 3 October in Aberdeen.
