E.ON has decided to delay submission of a consent application – and accompanying environmental statement (ES) – for its UK Round 3 Rampion offshore wind project by a month or two, Windpower Offshore has learned.
Originally scheduled for this month, E.ON now plans to submit its application for the up to 700MW project by the end of the year.
Explaining the minor delay, E.ON issued a brief statement: "Following the consultations this year we have been impressed by the level of interest in the project and we've received a significant amount of feedback. In order to do justice to the process we need to evaluate all the feedback before finalising our proposals and the environmental statement. As a result of this, there is some delay to our programme but we still aim to submit the consent application before the end of the year."
One issue raised during public consultation about Rampion this summer was the possibility of part-community ownership in the project. As reported by Windpower Offshore, two East Sussex community energy cooperatives called for the right to purchase a share in Rampion.
The project is planned for waters off England’s Sussex coast. A met mast has recently been installed within the development zone by EPC contractor, Fugro, and Newhaven has been named as the port that will be used for operations and maintenance work.
