Ramboll buys turbine optimisation consultancy

Leading foundation designer acquires LAC Engineering

One of Denmark’s largest engineering consultancies, Ramboll, has acquired another Danish company specialising in wind turbine design.

Until now, Ramboll has been known within the offshore wind sector primarily as a designer of foundations. With the purchase of LAC Engineering, Ramboll has signalled its intention to broaden its services and advise clients on "optimisation of the relation between energy production and a cost-effective" turbine design.

LAC’s clients have included Mitsubishi Power Systems, DONG Energy and Gamesa. Its capabilities take in aeroelastic simulations, load calculation, certification and production control.

Explaining the strength of LAC's client offering, Ramboll’s wind business director, Klaus Jacob Jensen, said: "When you understand and control the correlation between the external impact on a wind turbine, the dynamics of the structure and the load on components, you can ensure a competitive and reliable design, which will contribute to lower production prices."
