Installation of the first export cable at Gwynt y Môr resumed over the weekend, after the cable had to be cut in September, Windpower Offshore can report.
Global Marine Systems Energy commenced installation of the export cable in early August. A spokesperson for developer, RWE npower renewables, told Windpower Offshore that "the first export cable was cut more than a month ago, on 9 September" and that the installation barge, Cable Enterprise, resumed laying the cable this past weekend (20-21 October).
Last weekend's work began from the project's east substation, and moving towards the cable's beach landing point at Pensarn, near Abergele.
Installation of the cable should be completed in around 10-14 days, after which work on the second cable will commence. In total, four 18-22km export cables will be installed linking the 576MW development off the north Wales coast to the land-based grid.
Gwynt y Môr is jointly owned by RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München and Siemens and is due for completion in 2014.
