Gwynt y Môr 'half-way' milestone in sight

Eighty monopiles expected to be in place by Christmas

Almost two-fifths of the 160 monopiles at Gwynt y Môr have been installed and weather-permitting, 80 should be in place by Christmas, a spokesperson for RWE Innogy told Windpower Offshore.

By the end of November, just over 60 monopiles had been installed, with installation activity continuing from the heavy lift vessel, Stanislav Yudin. It was planned that the vessel would install 60 monopiles and transition pieces, but its scope has been extended, to encompass a further 20 monopiles.

The 576MW joint-venture project is being developed by RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München and Siemens, more than 13km offshore in Liverpool Bay. Installation of the Siemens 3.6MW turbines is due to commence in spring 2013, with the project set for completion in 2014
