A law setting new rules on liability for marine power cables linking offshore wind farms to shore is due to be approved by the German federal parliament later this week. The law, which was passed by the lower house on 29 November, is item 21 on the agenda of the 14 December sitting at the upper house, which represents Germany's 16 Länder.
The law introduces a requirement for a federal offshore network development plan to be presented annually by transmission system operators (TSOs) to the federal energy regulator. Starting in 2013, TSOs will have to submit their plans by 3 March each year.
New procedures to ensure proper coordination between the completion of transmission cables and the offshore wind farms they serve are also included in the new law.
