Siemens has signed a conditional agreement with Westermeerwind to build a 144MW near-shore project on a turnkey basis in the Ijsselmeer, to the north of Amsterdam.
The nine-figure agreement is conditional upon Westermeerwind securing finance, which it hopes to finalise later this year.
The deal stipulates that Siemens will supply and install 48 3MW turbines in three rows 500-1100m from shore. The company will also supply the transformer station and undertake maintenance for 15 years.
Provided Westermeerwind wins project finance, construction is scheduled to start next year, for commissioning in 2015.
Siemens is already in discussions with potential sub-contractors, including around 40 potential local suppliers.
The Westermeerwind site is next to the Noordoostpolder onshore wind farm, where a further 38 Enercon 7.5MW turbines will be erected along the dike.
Once completed, the two projects will form the country's largest wind installation by far, generating an estimated 1400GWh per year, which would represent around of 1.2% of the Netherlands' 2020 renewable energy target.
