West of Duddon Sands foundations arrive in Belfast

EIT Palmina completes first of 22 voyages

Combi Lift's EIT Palmina docked in Belfast over the weekend, laden with the first batch of foundations for the West of Duddon Sands (WoDS) project. The cargo vessel had sailed from Bladt Industries' facilities in Aalborg, Denmark.

In 22 consecutive voyages, the vessel will transport 108 transition pieces and 108 monopiles. The components are destined for DONG Energy's and ScottishPower Renewables' 389MW WoDS project in the Irish Sea, where offshore construction is due to commence this summer.

Korsør-based Combi Lift was awarded the contract in August 2012. As well as foundations transportation, the contract includes provision of a lashing and securing system that enables the vessel to sail from Aalborg to Belfast without lashing wires being required.
