Crown Estate produces transmission infrastructure guide

Information provided for UK regulators to support permitting process

A guide explaining the technical and environmental issues that regularly arise during the design and construction of electricity transmission infrastructure for UK offshore wind projects has been published by the country's seabed owner, Crown Estate.

Comprising more than one hundred pages, Transmission infrastructure associated with connecting offshore generation, is designed to assist UK officials who are charged with making decisions about the permitting of offshore wind transmission infrastructure projects.

While the guide does not represent statutory guidance, it offers "helpful reference material". Seven "typical connection scenarios" are outlined, in order to explore differences between grid connection options.

The guide was produced for Crown Estate by Royal HaskoningDHV, a consultancy with experience of advising on UK coastal and marine policy.
