Alstom’s Haliade 150 6MW offshore wind turbine has successfully completed three-month performance measurements at its French onshore site of Le Carnet, obtaining IEC power curve certification as a result.
Testing of diagnostics, reliability and maintenance of main components such as the generator, pitch, converter and yaw system will follow in the type testing certification process. Alstom expects these to be completed and certification to be obtained before the end of 2013. Le Carnet site will then be used for complementary performance upgrade tests, and training activities.
"We are proud to reach this important milestone in the certification plan of our machine in such a short time with the level of performance we had expected," said Alstom vice president for offshore wind, Frederic Hendrick. Preparations are also being made for offshore testing at the Belgian Belwind 2 project.
The Haliade will be used in three French projects but has yet to acquire orders elsewhere, with the exceptiion of a demonstration site in the US. Hendrick told Windpower Offshore earlier this year that Alstom is targeting UK and German offshore projects.
