The first batch of West of Duddon Sands' (WoDS) foundations has been installed. Installation commenced at the end of May and seven monopiles and transition pieces are now in place, a spokesperson for DONG Energy told Windpower Offshore today.
Under development in the Irish Sea, the 389MW project is a joint venture between DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables. The 108 monopiles and transition pieces are being shipped from Belfast to the project site off Walney Island, Cumbria.
The Pacific Orca and Sea Installer are being deployed, transporting five and three sets of foundations, respectively. Installation work is set to continue through the remainder of 2013, with FoundOcean undertaking the grouting work.
Turbine installation is scheduled for August 2013 to June 2014, with the project due for completion by the end of next year.
