Statistics for the first quarter of 2013 show that offshore developments generated 2.5TWh compared with 1.5TWh for the same period in 2012.
The DECC says the growth is accounted for by much increased capacity, such as the London Array and Greater Gabbard projects. Wind speeds in 2013 Q1 were fractionally lower than a year ago (4.4m/s from 4.6m/s).
Overall, renewables provided 12.3% of UK power in 2013 Q1, compared with 11.3% in 2012 Q1. Offshore wind’s share has grown from 13% to 20% in the same period.
