The deal, which is for the 72MW Maevaara wind farm to be built in the Övertorneå and Pajala municipality in northern Sweden, is Google's first wind power purchase agreement (PPA) in Europe.
Scandinavia's grid system allows a "guarantee of origin" certificates to be used in either market. At the same time, ownership of the project will pass to German insurance company Allianz, which has agreed to provide a loan facility for the project's construction. The project is expected to come online in 2015.
The project will use 24 Nordex N117 3MW medium wind speed turbines. It is the first major order for the turbine, which forms part of the Delta series launched at EWEA 2013 in February.
It is not the first wind PPA Google has signed this year.
In January, Google set up a partnership deal with its local utility the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) to power its Oklahoma data centre with wind energy.
Under the deal, Google pays GRDA to supply electricity from the Atlantic Power Corporation-owned 48MW Canadian Hills wind farm in Oklahoma, US.
