Gamesa sells 70MW project to Iberdrola

MEXICO: Gamesa yesterday announced it had sold a 70MW project it is developing in Oaxaca to Iberdrola.

The Dos Arbolitos wind farm wil use 35 Gamesa 2MW turbines

Gamesa will be in charge of developing and building the Dos Arbolitos wind farm located in the town of Juchitán de Zaragoza, which will comprise 35 Gamesa 2.0 MW wind turbines. The wind turbines are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2013, while the facility is scheduled for commissioning in 2014.

The transaction is part of Gamesa's new strategy to step back from project ownership and investment,  focussing instead on being a key technology partner, navigating a wind farm's development through everything from site identification, wind resource measurement and government permits, to construction, turbine supply and O&M services.

This Mexican deals follows a similar transaction in Germany last December, where Gamesa sold a 183MW pipeline to UK-based private equity fund Impax Asset Management.

In its capacity as developer, Gamesa has developed, built and commissioned more than 170 MW in Mexico and currently has a pipeline of 544MW at varying stages of development.
