EDF and Enbridge acquire 300MW Canadian project

CANADA: Canadian developer Greengate Power has sold its 300MW Blackspring Ridge wind farm in Alberta to EDF and Enbridge.

Vestas V100 turbines

The project is located in Vulcan County, southern Alberta, about 165 kilometres south-east of Calgary. On completion it will be the largest wind farm in western Canada.

Under the purchase, EDF and Enbridge will each own 50% of the project. Greengrate will continue to work on the project through its development.

At the same time, Vestas has received a 299MW order for 166 V100 low wind 1.8MW turbines. Vestas said it aimed to supply the turbines in the second half of 2013 with a view to completing the project by mid-2014.

Vestas originally received an order for Blackspring Ridge in 2011. At the time, it was reported the project was to be financed via a 20-year contract with San Francisco-based Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) with the aim of a 2012 completion.
