Vestas will supply 37 V100 1.8MW low wind speed turbines to the Hopefield wind farm, located in the south of the country.
The turbines will be delivered in Q2 2013 with the aim of bringing the project online by February 2014. The deal includes a 15-year service agreement.
Hopefield has been in the pipeline for a number of years and was originally set to become South Africa's first large-scale wind farm.
In 2010, Hopefield was put on hold until an agreed framework could be put in place enabling independent power producers to sign power purchase agreements with state utility Eskom.
Vestas already has a V100 1.8MW unit installed at the Nelson Mandela football stadium. The turbine was installed for the 2010 World Cup.
