Finnish developer TuuliWatti Oy has ordered three turbines although Vestas did not reveal where they would be located. Delivery is expected in Q4 2013.
The V126, unveiled in September, is the low wind version of Vestas' V112 platform. Talking about the machine, Anders Vedel, Vestas' executive vice president for turbine research and development, said: "The rotor-swept area of the new V126-3.0MW wind turbine has been increased by 27% and the turbine is specifically designed to yield maximum power production on low wind sites."
Speaking to Windpower Monthly recently about the launch of the V126 3MW turbine, chief sales officer Juan Araluce said Vestas is set to put increasing emphasis on its low wind products.
Vestas predicts around 46% of the 60GW likely to be developed in Europe between 2013-17 will be on low wind sites. "We'll always have competitive machines for high wind sites, but obviously the bulk of the commercial efforts will be for low and medium wind sites," said Araluce.
