The developer from northwest China's Shaanxi province started the project on October 5 with the laying of concrete foundations.
The 750kw wind turbine is produced by Goldwind. It is expected to connect to the grid at the end of the year.
Li Zhifu, manager of Xian Electric's African Business, said the demonstration project, the first wind power project in Uzbekistan, was developed by Uzbekistan National Energy Company. It will accumulate experiences and lay a foundation for future large-scale wind power development.
Xian Electric is building the project for China XD Group, which won the project in late 2011 through an international tender, against companies from China, Russia and South Korea. China XD Group signed a general contractor agreement with Uzbekistan National Energy Company for the EPC (engineer, procure and construct) project in April 2012.
In July, China XD Group finished the technical proposal. It submitted the foundation construction blueprint in September. To date, it has shipped the blades to the site, and the turbine is on the way.
