The 140 Siemens 3.6MW turbines at Greater Gabbard have been commissioned and have exported electricity.
Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Limited (GGOWL) is now responsible for day-to-day operations at the wind farm, located 23km off the Suffolk coast. GGOWL is a 50:50 joint venture between SSE and RWE, the project developers.
Greater Gabbard is at the centre of a row between GGOWL and subcontractor Fluor. In April, GGWOL announced the counter-sue if its contractor Fluor over the quality of the project's monopiles.
Fluor claims GGOWL has carried out unnecessary testing and repairs to monopiles and transition pieces at the site. In Novemeber 2011, GGOWL said 52 out of 140 transition pieces are defective at the wind farm.
