UNITED STATES: The amount of wind power installed in the US has risen to just under 50GW proving the looming expiry of the PTC is giving a late-minute boost to the industry.

The greatest activity was in Ohio, followed by Oklahoma, Illinois, California and Kansas. There are around 10GW under contraction in 30 states and Puerto Rico, an increase of 40% on 2011.

In Q1 wind energy rose in the US 1,695MW. The quarterly increase represented a rise of 52% compared to the same period in 2011.
