Global Offshore Wind Conference - four views

UK: As part of the RenewableUK Global Offshore Wind conference in London, Windpower Monthly asked various industry figures what challenges needed to be overcome if the UK is to achieve its ambitious offshore wind targets.

Alstom offshore wind platform director Daniel Castel said: "In the UK there are delays. Our original plans have been postponed due to several issues, permitting but also the financing of utilities. For us it's challenging but we're still waiting for the final decisions."

Jesper Holst Dong EnergyDong head of UK project development Jesper Holst said :"The challenge the UK faces is we have been developing offshore for five years now in relatively benign environments, relatively shallow water. But it's facing and increased complexity further offshore and in deeper water, new transmission technology, new foundation technology."

Matthew Delany VestasVestas director UK government relations Matthew Delany said: "The massive plans the UK and the likes of Germany are developing are going to need a lot of finance... Also in the UK the EMR has created some uncertainty among developers that we are monitoring."

Julian Brown ArevaAreva director UK wind Julian Brown said: "There needs to be a environment where there is confidence for investment. For developers because the market is sound."
