The Georgia Mountain wind project in northwestern Vermont will be financed by locally based Merchants Bank.
The developer, All Earth Renewables, will install four of the Chinese manufacturer’s latest 2.5MW permanent-magnet direct-drive turbines.
Three 2.5MW machines are already operating in the US, in Goldwind’s 106.5MW Shady Oaks project in Illinois, which was commissioned last week.
But the Georgia Mountain project will be the first in the US that exclusively uses the 2.5MW model.
According to Goldwind, the financing of Georgia Mountain is a sign of the "bankability" of US projects that use Goldwind turbines.
"This project is an encouraging step for us in that it demonstrates that customers [in the US] have confidence in the reliability and efficiency of our products," said Goldwind USA’s chief executive, Tim Rosenzweig. The Vermont project is to be completed by year’s end.
Goldwind, China’s largest turbine manufacturer, has now sold 288MW of turbines in 11 US states.
It is the first Chinese wind turbine manufacturer to gain serious traction in the US market.
