Siemens wins 50MW Turkish wind turbine deal

TURKEY: Siemens has been awarded a 50MW contract by developer Olgu Enerji Uretim for a project in south west Turkey.

Siemens 2.3MW turbine will be used on the projects

The Dinar wind project, located outside Afyon city, will use 22 2.3-108 turbines and is expected to come online by the end of the year. The deal includes delivery, installation and a five-year service contract.

Olgu Enerji Uretim is an affiliate of Turkish construction company Guris Holdings. Dinar is Siemens' third wind project in Turkey. It also has projects at Mahmudiye (30MW) and Dagpazari (39MW).

Last week, Nordex was awarded a 27.5MW order from Turkey's Tektug Elektrik Group for a project in the east of the country. The Sincik wind farm, which will be located near Adiyaman in south-eastern Turkey, will use 11 N100 2.5MW low wind speed turbines.

Figures from Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) showed installed wind capacity rose by 521MW to 1,799MW last year.

Looking beyond 2012, however, investors agree that the market framework needs to be improved if Turkey is to come close to fully exploiting its ample wind resources.
