Five workers killed at Chinese offshore factory

CHINA: Five workers have been killed and four injured in a building site of Funing economic development zone, Yancheng, east China's Jiangsu province.

The accident took place when a steel platform collapsed in Jiangsu Jingye Offshore Wind Bearing Manufacturing Company. Two workers died at the site, and three died later in hospital.

Established in January 2011 in Funing county, the company is a subsidiary of Jingye Bearing, a leading Chinese wind turbine bearing producer.

Construction of the factory buildings of Jiangsu Jingye Offshore Wind Bearing Manufacturing Co. Ltd. started in November 2011, and is scheduled to complete in February this year.

The company is expected to begin manufacturing in April.
