The company, which has teamed up with companies including Dong Energy, Nass&Wind Offshore, Poweo Renewables, Wpd Offshore and Alstom, said it was pulling out of the 750MW Le Treport tender so it could concentrate on the four other projects.
As overall leader and founder of the consortium, EDF holds a majority stake in the consortium and is coordinating the bids.
The Treport project has faced opposition from the local population. Among the fiercest critics are local fishermen who fear the project's effect on fishing grounds.
In all, five wind zones have been identified by the French government: Le Treport (750MW); Fecamp (500MW); Courseulles-sur-Mer (500MW); Saint-Brieuc (500MW); and Saint-Nazaire (750MW).
A second round of tenders will follow, aimed at getting France to its target of 6GW of offshore wind generation capacity by 2020.
