The installation is part of a trial being run in conjunction with Goteborg Energi and follows on from the turbine's launch in March.
The 4.1-113 is a scaled-up version of ScanWind’s 3.5MW turbine, which has operated for the last five years along the Norwegian coast. ScanWind was acquired by GE nearly three years ago.
GE said the 4.1-113 installation would be completed by mid-December.
Last year, GE announced the development of the 4.1-113 would be split between the UK, Sweden, Norway and Germany. In Sweden, it said it would build a facility specialising in systems design and a demonstration unit, which would be located in Karlstad and Gothenburg harbour respectively.
The last offshore wind farm GE built was the 25MW Arklow wind farm in the Irish Sea. It was developed in 2003 and consists of seven 3.6MW turbines.
