Brands including Motorola, Deutsche Bank and Method have announced they will source the equivalent of 25% of their operational electricity consumption from wind energy.
However, wind project owners Ikea and Google have not joined the standard (although Google owns Motorola). Speaking to Windpower Monthly in May, both companies said that although they were interested in joining the standard they wanted more clarity regarding the criteria.
Rick Needham, green development director at Google said at the time: "WindMade has not shared how its labelling is going to be verified. But if it's done in a transparent way then it makes a lot of sense."
Additionally, the only wind turbine manufacturer to join the scheme is original backer Vestas.
"These companies are at the forefront of the global sustainability movement," said Henrik Kuffner, WindMade's CEO. "We are delighted to have them on board the unique WindMade initiative, and are confident that many others will follow suit in the coming weeks and months."
The first WindMade companies are:

- RenewAire (energy recovery ventilator TTTech (supplier of communication andcontrol platforms)
- Vestas Wind Systems (wind turbine manufacturer)
- PwC DK (professional services)
- Bloomberg (financial news and data service)
- LEGO Group (toy manufacturer)
