Vapat orders 42MW from Vestas

SPAIN: Vestas has received a 42MW order from Spanish developer Vapat for a project in northern Spain.

The project will use Vestas V90 turbines

Vestas will supply 22 V90 2MW turbines to the Zarzuela wind project in Castilla y Leon. Delivery is set for the end of the year with installation planned for Q2 2012.

The order comes at a difficult time for the Spanish wind industry with post-2012 legislation still undecided and manufacturers closing plants in the country due.

However, speaking about the deal, Vestas general manager Iberia Miguel Picardo said: "It is very positive for the Spanish wind industry that companies continue supporting the development of wind even when the market is still lacking certainty and long-term visibility.

"This is the reason why companies developing large wind projects, such as Vapat, choose to work together with strong and reliable technological partners who are able to provide business-case certainty."

This is Vestas’ second order from Vapat in recent months. In August, the developer bought 46 V90 2MW turbines for the Brulles and Los Zapateros wind farms, also in Castilla y Leon.
