From just before midnight to 08:40, wind’s contribution to the mix never went below 50%, according to data from system operator, Red ElÈctrica de EspaÒa (REE).

From 22.00 5 November to almost 18.00 6 November, the figure did not drop lower than 45%.

The achievement highlights REE’s focus since 2004 on implementino methods to increase the wind’s grid integration.

These include real-time centralised monitoring and control systems at all wind stations over 10MW, together with advanced wind forecasting.

With low interconnection capacity with Europe, REE balances Spainís system internally. Before 2004, the operator had maintained wind’s spot penetration could not exceed 12% of the mix.
