Renewable UK warns of looming supply chain problems

UK: A leap in UK deployed wind capacity in 2016 would represent a major challenge for the supply chain, says industry body Renewable UK.

Supply chain...crunch year predicted for 2015
In its state of the industry report published yesterday, Renewable UK forecasts a 100% increase in annual deployed capacity between 2015 and 2016.

It says this could cause supply chain issues, "especially as the relatively slow years in 2013 and 2014 are unlikely to give the supply chain the confidence required to invest heavily".

Europe-wide, Renewable UK forecasts annual installed capacities in 2013 and 2014 of around 3GW, suggesting many elements of the supply chain will consider this as their market, rather than that of any single country.

This week Henrik Stiesdal, chief technology officer at Siemens Windpower, talking about supply chain challenges in The Times newspaper, said: "We have a sourcing challenge and a challenge getting it industrialised soon enough".
