UNITED STATES: Vestas has received a 65MW order from Green Mountain Power, the first order for the V112 3MW turbine in the US.

The turbines will go to the Kingdom Community Wind project near Lowell, Vermont. Commissioning is set for the end of 2012.

The deal includes delivery and commissioning, and a 15-year servicing agreement. It is Vestas’ first order from Green Mountain Power.

Vestas said the order will become the first to be received by its blade manufacturing plant at Brighton, Colorado.

This is Vestas’ second order announcement for the V112 in two days. It follows a 198MW order from Arise Windpower for a project in Sweden. Vestas also reached the 1GW milestone for the turbine when it delivered on a 36MW order for German developer Ostwind.

The V112 is Vestas’ latest onshore turbine and follows on from the V90.

However, late last year there were still teething problems with the turbine. In September, a portion of one of the blades snapped off a prototype V112 at the Vestas testing facility in Denmark.
